Parks Section

The Ajax Parks System is open year-round for your enjoyment. To provide this service, parks maintenance includes litter control, repair of park infrastructure and sports field maintenance, forestry services and horticulture.

The parks department manages approximately 800 hectares and maintains approximately 45 km of pathways. We maintain all local parks and park land within the Ajax municipality, aiming to constantly improve the streetscape and outdoor facilities to provide a safe, pleasent environment for our residents. Responsibilities include maintaining the walkways, soccer fields, playgrounds and ball diamonds. In addition we do flower plantings and grass cutting of all park area.

We have recently expanded our naturalization program, to help create park and open spaces that are self sustaining and ecologically diverse. Allowing areas to regenerate naturally has many benefits, including improved water quality, increased flora and fauna, reduced emissions and better air quality. It also lessens the need for pesticides.

Care of Trees

Our Forestry Division cares for all Town-owned trees along the streets, parks, greenspaces, natural areas, woodlands and beautification programs. Our goal is to effectively preserve, conserve and manage the urban forest, thus providing a better quality of life for the residents of Ajax. We also serve as a resource for other departments and the public in streetscape design, tree preservation and community planting projects.

The Town has undertaken a Urban Forestry Study as the first step in the Urban Forestry Strategy.   

Neighbourhood Ice Rinks

We can help you create an outdoor ice rink in your local park.  All we need is a neighbouring volunteer to be the resident co-ordinator, willing to flood and maintain it.  We will install boards once the ground permits. The resident coordinator will maintain the rink for the season, and receive a maximum of $50 for water consumption. Please contact us if you are interested.

Skateboard Parks

Ajax now has two skateboard parks. One is located just south of the Ajax Community Centre and the other skateboard park is right in front of McLean Community Centre (shown above). Both parks are open daily from dawn to dusk (there's no night lighting) and is closed in wet/snowy weather.

Skateboard park rules:

• Please respect the facility and all users!
• This is an unsupervised facility - skate at your own risk.
• Open daily until dusk - weather permitting.
• Inspect the facility and all equipment including personal safety equipment prior to using.
• Helmets and safety gear strongly recommended - check out the helmet test at: Safe Kids Canada
• This is a shared use facility.
• Please use garbage cans provided - do not litter.
• No skating on community centre property, including parking lots.
